# Askarr: the full guide > Askarr (https://askarr.com) lets you request movies and TV shows from any phone or browser, and > your own Radarr (movies) and Sonarr (shows) add them at home. It is a hosted website made by > LunarWerx: nothing to install, no port forwarding, no reverse proxy and no VPN. ## Who it is for People who run Radarr and Sonarr at home (often with Plex, Jellyfin or Emby) and want to add a movie or show while away from home, from a phone or any browser, without exposing their server to the internet. It is also a simple way to let a household request titles without giving them access to Radarr or Sonarr. ## How it works Radarr and Sonarr each have a built-in import list type that copies another Radarr or Sonarr server's library: Radarr's "Radarr" list and Sonarr's "Sonarr" list. askarr.com answers like such a server whose library is your requests. Your Radarr and Sonarr connect out to askarr.com on their normal list schedule (Radarr every 15 minutes, Sonarr every 5), read your requests and add anything they do not have yet, with your own quality profile and root folder. askarr.com never connects in and never holds their API keys. ## Setting it up 1. Make a free account at https://askarr.com (sign-in is with Connections) and open the dashboard's Connections page. It shows your Askarr key. 2. One click: on a computer, drag the page's "Add to Askarr" bookmark to the bookmarks bar, open your own Radarr in that browser and click the bookmark; do the same in Sonarr. It saves the list (and the status webhook) inside each app for you. 3. Or by hand, in Radarr: Settings, Lists, +, Radarr. Full URL `https://askarr.com/radarr`, API Key = your Askarr key, then pick your quality profile and root folder and Save. 4. And in Sonarr: Settings, Import Lists, +, Sonarr. Full URL `https://askarr.com/sonarr`, API Key = your Askarr key, then pick your quality profile and root folder and Save. 5. Optional, for live status: in each app, Settings, Connect, +, Webhook, URL `https://askarr.com/hooks/`. The dashboard then shows Added when the app adds a title and Downloaded when the file arrives. The Connections page turns green by itself once each app has read the list. ## Requesting Search any movie or show on https://askarr.com/search, or paste a TMDB, IMDb or TVDB link to find the exact title, and tap Request. Movies go to Radarr and shows go to Sonarr. The dashboard lists every request with its status: Waiting, Added, Downloaded. ## Questions **Do I need to install anything?** No. You add Askarr to Radarr and Sonarr once, with the one-click bookmark or two pasted fields. They then read your requests from askarr.com like any other import list. **Where do Radarr and Sonarr run?** Anywhere they run: Docker, Unraid, Synology, Linux, Windows. They only need to reach askarr.com. **Do I need to open any ports?** No. Radarr and Sonarr reach out to askarr.com and nothing reaches in. askarr.com never connects to them and never holds their keys. **How soon does a request arrive?** Radarr reads your list every 15 minutes and Sonarr every 5. **Can my household use it?** Yes, through one Askarr account: everyone signed in to it can request, everything goes to your Radarr and Sonarr, and it shares that account's monthly allowance. **What is Connections?** The free account service Askarr uses for sign-in and payments. Askarr never stores a password, your email or your card. **How is it different from Overseerr or Jellyseerr?** Overseerr, Jellyseerr and Ombi are request apps you host yourself. They call Radarr and Sonarr over your network, so using them from outside your home means exposing them (port forwarding, a reverse proxy, a tunnel or a VPN such as Tailscale). They also have per-user accounts and approvals. Askarr is hosted and needs nothing opened at home, because Radarr and Sonarr pull your requests from it; a household shares one account and there is no approval step. **Can I bring in a whole IMDb watchlist?** Askarr is for one title at a time. IMDb Watcharr (https://watcharr.lunarwerx.com, free, also by LunarWerx) keeps a whole public IMDb watchlist or list in sync with Radarr and Sonarr. **Can I try it first?** Yes. Search and browse at https://askarr.com/search without an account, or open a working demo dashboard at https://askarr.com/auth/demo. The demo has a pretend Radarr that adds what you request about 20 seconds later, and its key works with your real Radarr and Sonarr. ## Plans - Free: 10 requests a month, no card. - Plus: $3.99 a month, 50 requests a month. - Pro: $6.99 a month, unlimited requests. - Every friend who joins through your referral link adds 10 requests a month, on any plan. - Payments go through Stripe via Connections Pay. Cancel any time from the dashboard. ## Privacy askarr.com holds your list of requests and your Connections ID, name and photo. It never receives your Radarr or Sonarr API keys, never connects to your home network, and never stores a password, email address or card.
